These regulations, known as the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, incorporate the majority of the recommendations from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. Their purpose is to enhance fire safety measures and protect residents in mid and high-rise blocks of flats.

Under the new regulations, responsible persons for these buildings are required to provide fire and rescue services with relevant information for operational planning. Additionally, they must implement additional safety measures. In multi-occupied residential buildings, residents must now receive fire safety instructions and information regarding fire doors.

The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 are now legally binding and form part of a comprehensive set of fire safety measures introduced by the government in response to the Grenfell Tower fire. These measures aim to minimize risks and ensure the safety of the public.

For high-rise residential buildings, responsible persons have specific obligations, including submitting up-to-date electronic building plans and information about the design and materials of the external wall to the local fire and rescue service. Monthly checks of firefighting lifts, evacuation lifts, and other essential firefighting equipment are also required. Moreover, the installation of a secure information box and wayfinding signage is mandatory.

In mid-rise residential buildings (over 11 meters), responsible persons must conduct annual checks of flat entrance doors and quarterly checks of all fire doors in the common areas.

Chris Philp, the Minister for Crime, Policing and Fire, expressed satisfaction with the implementation of these fire safety measures. He emphasized that the government is dedicated to prioritizing public safety and ensuring that the tragic events of Grenfell Tower are never repeated.
